Finally beat Joker

I just finally finished the game. My winning team:
Night Clubber S+8
Black Dragon S+6
Zoma X+11

It was quite an enjoyable ride, although the game wasn’t without flaws. What annoyed me the most were the long traveling times between islands. If I had to go from Fern Isle to the city and back, one could go mad. Other games have teleport spells for this sort of stuff, I wished the developers had thought about that too. Well, otherwise it was quite good. The monster synthesizing was cool and the graphics were impressive for a DS game.

I’ll pass on post-endgame content, I just don’t have time for that. I guess I should get back to hacking Caravan Heart instead. Although currently there are still Call of Duty 4, Crysis, Unreal Tournament 3, Gears of War (PC), … this is surely the coolest time of the year for a game addict like me.

Yeah there’s a lot of bad-ass games out right now, hopefully you’ll still put time in for the game but anyway have fun with those.

There are teleport spells, but only back to the last town you used. So what you do is when going to Fert and the like, just don’t go into the scout hall. You get those spells by reading the books left over by the Temple bosses.

I’m going to buy Dragon Quest IV for the DS tomorrow… I hope it’s good. I’m glad you’ve finished Joker. Perhaps you’re motivated to work on the hacking again. Let me know if you need any help.

Wow, Dragon Quest IV for the DS is extremely easy… You can kill all of the first enemies you see with one hit, even with the starting equipment… I’ve never played a DQ like this. Also, you don’t lift barrels anymore. You shatter them just by examining them… It feels really easy. Too easy. I don’t know if I like the direction they’re taking…

Sounds like they turn DQ into Final Fantasy. I wouldn’t care so much if they do that with new games in the series, but a remake should be faithful in this regard unless the original had serious problems with balancing.

I guess I’ll see when they make an English version some day 😉

Although I have the DS version, I am only on chapter 2. I can’t comment on any more than that. I can tell you that a large part of the game is already in English (as well as French, Spanish, and German). They dummied the other languages out, but you can use a cheat device to play it in English… (Unfortunately, the translation is incomplete and not formatted properly.) Still, it’s playable. The prologue is untranslated, but I heard that the “new” chapter is translated.

DANG IT! After beating DQM:Joker last night, I decided that I was going to translate DQM:CH. I spent about 10 minutes browsing the web to see if anyone else had attempted it and came up empty handed. Thus I decided to undertake the task. I spent over 6 hours today working on it (Replacing the font, marking offsets and dumping the script). After a while I decided I needed to grab a tool from and what do I stumble upon? This site. Somebody had beaten me to the punch…by over a year. Oh well. 🙁

Props to you KaioShin. You seem to have put a lot of effort into this translation. I look forward to playing it when it comes out. If you ever decide you’d like some help, shoot me an email. I have a decent amount of experience with rom hacking, mostly in the graphical and dumping/insertion areas.
